What is vacation and the advantages of having vacation? Based on the article, ‘Definitions for vacation’, vacation can be defined as a period of suspension of regular work, study or other activity used for rest, recreation or travel. Besides, based on the similar article, vacation also means that an act or instance of vacating. Vacation is a desire by most people and for those who gain advantages out of vacation will seize the chance as possible. People always think that vacation need to be at the different countries such as Europe, Australia, Africa and others which is far from Malaysia. However, having vacation in Malaysia will give more advantages and benefits that some Malaysian do not know about it. The advantages of having vacation in Malaysia are; low travelling cost, many natural beauties to explore, and various cultural diversities.

                One of the advantages of having a vacation in Malaysia is low travelling cost. Malaysia has cheap destinations for Malaysian and also for tourists from other countries. Why it is so? Morris (2012) mentioned that, tourists only need to spend about RM300 per holiday to have a good vacation with reasonable quality hotel room. Although RM300 is not enough for tourists to spend in Kuala Lumpur and any other major cities in Malaysia, but it is suitable and more than enough to spend in other state in Malaysia such as Terengganu where the cost of living is not that expensive. Besides, Malaysia is also stated as one of the shopping heaven for tourists. It is because, in Malaysia, the local products and branded goods are cheaper compared to other countries in the region. In fact, in order to attract tourist to spend more in Malaysia, Malaysia Tourism has organized the “Year End Sale (YES)” every year. During YES, the price for non and branded items are normally cheaper than the usual.

          

      Another advantages of having a vacation in Malaysia is, there are many natural beauties to be explore. For those who love the beach, they can choose their location, or places for holiday from varities of beaches and islands along the shore of Peninsular Malaysia. According to Rusli (2011), Pangkor Island and Redang Island have beautiful beaches for tourist to do water activities such as snorkelling and scuba diving. As mentioned by TunDr. Mahathir (2005), one of the attraction in Langkawi is the ‘Underwater World Langkawi’. This underwater world is one of the Malaysia’s largest aquarium and “one of the largest marine and fresh water aquaria in South East Asia”. Langkawi also is a duty free island where tourists can buy gifts asrememberance. Furthermore, in Malaysia also there are beautiful mountains that allow tourists to enjoy the spectacular view. Based on the article,‘Malaysia Vacation Guide Your Travel Companion’ (n.d), Cameron Highlands, Genting Highlands, Fraser Hill and Bukit Tinggi are examples of mountains that have been transformed for tourists attraction with the beautiful of the flora that combined with the mountainous landscapes surrounded the highlands. With these advantages, many tourists and also environmentalist are attracted to come back to these mountains.

Finally, the advantages of having vacation in Malaysia is the various cultural diversities. Various cultural diversities and ethnics can be seen in “its language, music, dance, people and handicrafts as well.” Malaysia is a nation of diversity in unity where Malays, Chinese, Indians and the indigenous people of Sabah and Sarawak live in harmony as mentioned by Zara (2009). With this unique multiculturalism, it has not only regard Malaysia as food paradise but also made Malaysia as a home to hundred of colourful festivals. These are due to its architectural that reflect the colourful heritage and culture.Therefore Malaysia is a nice and suitable place for a vacation. In addition, the openness to diversity has lead Malaysia to become more special and to be remembered because of the different ethnicity. Different races have different types of meeting and greeting according to its culture and belief. Therefore, Malaysia can be a well-known country because of the various cultural diversities.

In a nutshell, various cultural diversities, low travelling costs and many natural beauties to explore are the advantages of having a vacation in Malaysia. Malaysian should give priority to their own country before they think of going for a vacation in other countries. Therefore, the economy of the country will increased and this will help the tourism sector to develop more places to be visit in the future and indirectly will increase the number of tourist from other countries to visit Malaysia especially Malaysian.
